Position description

The Department of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering at the University of California, Irvine invites applicants for a Postdoctoral Scholar to join Dr. Han Li's laboratory of Metabolic Engineering and Synthetic Biology. The ideal applicant will have experience in any of the following fields:

(1) Synthetic biology and Protein engineering: Structure-guided protein engineering, directed evolution, protein purification, enzymatic assays, genetic engineering of bacteria and yeast, metabolic engineering.
(2) Chemical biology: Design and implement basic organic synthesis scheme for biomimetic small molecules, studying protein-ligand interactions through mutagenesis, analytical chemistry for biotransformation products.
(3) Machine learning and Computational protein design: computational prediction of protein-ligand interaction modes and effect of mutations, mechanistic study of protein functions through simulation, implement AI/ML-based pipeline for automated Design-Build-Test-Learn cycle in high-throughput protein engineering and enzyme discovery.

Good organization and communication skills, and ability to work in a team setting are essential qualities. Candidates should have a Ph.D. in chemical engineering, biology, biomedical engineering, Chemistry, or a related field.
