Position overview

Salary range: Total Negotiated Salary (TNS) calculation includes AAMC salary benchmarks for Cardiac Surgery ranging from $712,244- $1,028,190. The posted UC salary scales set the base pay determined by ran and/or step at appointment. This position includes in the health sciences compensation plan, which provides eligibility for additional compensation.

Position description

The Department of Surgery at the University of California, Irvine School of Medicine is recruiting an Academic Cardiac Surgeon to direct our advanced heart failure and MCS program. You would be joining an exceptional cardiovascular program in the Division of Cardiac Surgery. This position will be in the (Non-Senate) Health Sciences Clinical Professor Series at the Assistant, Associate Professor, or Professor Level.
The Division of Cardiac Surgery is an essential component of the comprehensive cardiovascular program at UC Irvine's School of Medicine. The goal of the program is to provide the highest level of care with the use of the most modern and cutting-edge surgical techniques and technologies. We also work closely in collaboration with cardiology and vascular surgery to partner in this endeavor.
The program currently performs all aspects of adult cardiac surgery including coronary, valvular, aortic, and arrhythmia, both open and via minimally invasive approaches, and surgery for advanced heart failure and cardiogenic shock including surgical Impella and HM3 LVADs. We have a growing advanced heart failure and MCS program. There are active structural heart (TAVR, Mitraclip, Watchman) as well as a TEVAR programs with procedures performed using our two hybrid operating rooms. There are currently four APPs with plans to hire a fifth, supporting the division of cardiac surgery and a fully staffed, 24/7 in-house CVICU team. UCI is the only academic and tertiary care center in Orange County, and we manage complex cardiac patients from throughout the region.
The responsibilities and expectations of this successful candidate include:
• Training and competence in advanced heart failure surgical management including ECMO, LVAD, and heart transplant
• Competence in adult cardiac surgery including coronary bypass, aortic valve replacement, repair and replacement of the mitral and tricuspid valves. Management of acute aortic syndromes. Management of aortic aneurysmal disease and other common adult cardiac diseases
• Excellence in communication with partners, APPs, and other professionals
• Interest and desire to continue growing an excellent academic advanced heart failure program
• Participation in research programs
• Teaching clinical programs to fellows, residents, and medical students
• Performing University and public service

Requirements:
• Board certification or board eligibility in cardiothoracic surgery
• California Medical License (prior to start date)
• Strong interest and demonstrated abilities in delivering patient care in an academic clinical setting.
• Residents/fellows currently completing their training as well as attending cardiac surgeons in-practice are encouraged to apply.
• Academic rank and salary will be commensurate with training, qualifications, and experience.
