Position description
The Center for Applied Artificial Intelligence Research (A2IR) as part of the UCI Institute for Precision Health is seeking a postdoctoral candidate in machine learning and deep learning applied to high-dimensional medical datasets. A2IR is a multi-specialty collaborative initiative to develop and integrate artificial intelligence technology across the UCI healthcare system.
Responsibilities: A successful candidate will act as a senior data scientist to develop, implement, and validate novel machine learning methods applied to high-dimensional medical datasets including images, videos, sound, and/or other time-series information. Additional responsibilities include facilitating machine learning IT operations (MLOps) such as maintenance of various compute environments and model deployments. Academic duties will include the preparation of abstracts, manuscripts, presentations, and grants, as well as teaching and working with trainees of various levels.
Basic Qualifications:
PhD in computer science, computational biomedical imaging, experimental pathology, applied mathematics, or a related field.
Additional Qualifications:
Experience in image processing and medical imaging across various modalities including radiology and/or pathology datasets.
Preferred Qualifications:
Expertise in critical thinking and independent analysis in solving new problems
Expertise in implementing modern deep learning techniques for computer vision tasks
Expertise in popular machine learning frameworks including Tensorflow/Keras or PyTorch
Expertise in manipulation of high-dimensional data using Python (NumPy, scipy, skimage)
Expertise in database management for medical images
Expertise in advanced imaging processing and normalization techniques
Familiarity with Linux systems administration
Familiarity with writing concise and understandable technical documentation
Familiarity with source control system such as Git or Subversion
Experience with working within institutional research or related, higher-education area
Experience with scientific writing
Location: The Center for Applied Artificial Intelligence Research is located within the Irvine Campus of UCI, situated in the beautiful Orange County, renowned for its natural beauty, year-round pleasant climate, and stunning Pacific Ocean locales. The area offers excellent recreational opportunities.
