LOWER-DIVISION ENGINEERING LECTURERS
DESCRIPTION
The Henry Samueli School of Engineering invites applications for part-time Unit 18 faculty positions in Spring quarter of 2025-2026, with the possibility of renewal as full-time position. The position is administered by UCI and the teaching will take place at the Dalian University of Technology (DUT) in Dalian, China with the DUT-UCI Joint Program. The DUT-UCI Joint Program in Mechanical Engineering is established by UCI and DUT, with students instructed by faculty from both universities. All teaching and assessment of the Core Curriculum will be carried out in English and with the American style of teaching and assessment, which encourages students to build independent learning skills. Students at the Joint Program will be instructed by both DUT and UCI faculty in Mechanical Engineering. More information about the joint program can be found at: https://sites.uci.edu/ucidutjp/
Dalian University of Technology (DUT) is a comprehensive public institute, renowned as one of the top universities in China. DUT has three campuses with 81 well-developed disciplines across 27 schools, providing rich resources for about 4,500 faculty and staff, and 50,000 students. DUT is also a leading university with expertise in numerous technology and engineering fields. DUT resides in Dalian, a beautiful modern coastal city in the Liaoning Province, located in the northeastern region of China. The city is about 1.5-hour from Beijing, China, and 1.5-hour from Seoul, South Korea, traveling by air. Temporary relocation to Dalian will be necessary during the time of instruction; travel expenses are included.
The Unit 18 Faculty needs to teach one or more lower-division Engineering courses during the 2025-2026 academic year, including:
ENGR 7A Introduction of Engineering I (Winter 2026)
ENGR 7B Introduction of Engineering II (Spring 2026)
Possible courses in the future: MAE 120 Heat and Mass Transfer, MAE 52 Computer-Aided Design, MAE 130A Fluid Dynamics I, MAE 130B. Fluid Dynamics II.
If selected, appointment will be annual corresponding to the term and the number of courses assigned, with the possibility of subsequent 2‐year appointment renewals, based on performance. Salary is commensurate with experience and also based on the number of courses assigned. The service period is according to the DUT academic calendar (Fall: Beginning of September to Mid-November; Winter: End of February to Mid-May; Spring: Early May to End of July). Depending on the circumstances, options may be available for quarter-by-quarter appointment.
The pay period is according to the UCI fiscal calendar.
Qualifications
Ph.D. in Engineering received prior to the start of the position or a M.S. in Engineering with equivalent experience (for the lower division courses).
