Position description

Assistant Adjunct Professor, Department of Ophthalmology & Visual Sciences

The Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences at UC Irvine School of Medicine is seeking accomplished Scientists and invites applications for one full-time position, Assistant Adjunct Professor (non-senate) to enhance and expand existing strengths in vision science and related diseases.

Required Qualifications
The candidate should have a Ph.D. and experience in innate immunity and inflammation, with a focus on ocular diseases and host–pathogen interactions. Experience with mouse models of infections, basic cell and molecular biology, and the use of modern genomic tools is expected. The candidate should also be comfortable working on the translational side, testing new treatments and immune-modulating drugs for infection and inflammation in the eye, and connecting basic mechanisms with therapeutic approaches. The ideal person will be ready to start an independent research program, collaborate with others, mentor students and fellows, and help move forward the field of ocular infection and immunity.

Principal Responsibilities
The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work with a large group of scientists in the School of Medicine and across the UCI campus as well as the opportunity to develop extramurally funded research programs on the cutting edge and to provide leadership in proteomics research. The Department provides excellent opportunities for research, teaching, mentorship and other academic interest opportunities to medical and graduate students, residents, fellows, and faculty.

The appointment at Assistant Adjunct Professor (non-senate) rank will be based on the candidate’s background and experience. Salary and rank will be commensurate with experience and expectations. This academic appointment has a target start date of July 1, 2026.
