Position description

The Department of Dermatology at the University of California, Irvine (UCI) is seeking applicants for a one-year, medical student research position under the direction of Kristen Kelly, M.D., Chair and Professor of Dermatology. This non-ACGME opportunity is designed for medical students interested in gaining clinical research experience and considering a future career in dermatology or academic research.

The selected candidate will work closely with Dr. Kelly and her research team, whose work focuses on innovative and emerging energy-based skin treatments, particularly for cutaneous vascular conditions, as well as non-invasive imaging technologies for skin disease.

During the research year, the candidate will gain hands-on experience conducting clinical research and clinical trials. Responsibilities may include protocol development, study coordination, data collection and analysis, manuscript preparation and submission, and participation in collaborative research and technology development projects. The candidate will also have opportunities to participate in clinical research activities and present findings at regional, national, and/or international scientific meetings.

The program provides mentorship, exposure to academic dermatology, and experience contributing to scholarly research, with a strong track record of preparing participants for careers in dermatology and research. Applicants should have a strong interest in dermatology and clinical research and would take a one-year leave of absence from medical school to participate. Salary and benefits are provided.
