Position description

Professor Elizabeth Cauffman and the Development, Disorder, and Delinquency Laboratory, at the University of California, Irvine, are currently accepting applications for a Research Scientist to join their research team. This is a one year appointment and is potentially renewable based on performance and availability of funding. The team is looking to hire 1-2 individuals for the role(s).

The individual(s) selected for this position will primarily work on two longitudinal research studies with justice system involved young adults. The first study is the Young Adult Court (YAC) study of Orange County, which is a randomized controlled trial of a specialized court designed for Transitional-Aged-Youth (“TAY;” 18 to 25 years old) in Orange County. Dr. Elizabeth Cauffman and her research team are evaluating whether young men processed through the YAC have better long-term outcomes (reduced recidivism; positive mental and physical health; positive socioeconomic) than young men who are processed through the traditional courts.

The individual(s) selected for this position will also be involved with the Road to Reentry Study, which is a randomized controlled trial examining whether developmentally-appropriate programming in a jail setting can reduce recidivism and promote positive outcomes among TAY incarcerated in an Orange County jail.

Dr. Cauffman and the Laboratory are seeking a highly motivated individual with quantitative experience in various types of analytic techniques appropriate for longitudinal data. The team is also seeking an individual who is comfortable designing and programming surveys in Qualtrics and QuestionPro. We are also seeking an individual who is comfortable writing and using syntax to merge, clean, and code data from a variety of sources. Experience with programs within Microsoft 365 (e.g., Excel; PowerPoint; SharePoint) and Google Workspace (e.g., Google Docs; Google Sheets; Google Slides) is required. Experience writing academic manuscripts and preparing a grant application is also preferred.
