The Department of Film and Media Studies at the University of California, Irvine invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in Film and Media Industry Studies to begin July 1, 2027.

We welcome applications from scholars conducting historical and/or contemporary research and specializing in film, television, streaming, video games, social media, and/or other media industries. We conceive industry studies broadly to include production studies, policy studies, political economy, labor studies, and infrastructure studies. Candidates who study any geographic region are welcome to apply, and we especially welcome candidates who explore inter/transnational media industries or media industries of the Global South.

Applicants must demonstrate potential for excellence in scholarship, as well as in teaching a range of core and elective courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels, graduate mentoring, and university service.

Ph.D. in Film and Media Studies or related field is required; degrees must be completed by June 30, 2027.
