Position description
The Department of Computer Science in the Donald Bren School of Information and Computer Sciences at the University of California, Irvine invites applications for a tenure-track/tenured position in artificial intelligence and machine learning (broadly interpreted), starting July 1, 2027. The appointment is expected to be at the rank of Assistant Professor. Exceptionally well-qualified senior candidates with high international visibility and major awards may be considered for an appointment at a higher rank.
Artificial intelligence and Machine Learning have traditionally been a major focus of UC Irvine's research, beginning with the UCI Machine Learning Repository. The faculty hire(s) will be part of UCI’s Center for Machine Learning and Intelligent Systems, whose more than 30 faculty members include fellows of AAAI, AAAS, ACM, and IEEE and general/program chairs of AAAI, AAMAS, AISTATS, CVPR, ICAPS, ICDE, KDD, SIGMOD, STOC, UAI, and VLDB. Center members have received test-of-time awards at AAAI, CVPR, ICML, ICCV, and SIGMOD, as well as best paper awards at ACL, AISTATS, ICAPS, ICML, KDD, NeurIPS, and PODS.
UC Irvine's Donald Bren School of Information and Computer Sciences is home to the departments of Computer Science, Informatics, and Statistics. With over 100 faculty members, the school is the largest computing program within the UC system and one of the largest in the nation, with a strong tradition of offering many opportunities for interdisciplinary research collaborations. Interdisciplinary AI research is further facilitated by the AI in Science Institute, the Institute for Engineering AI for Society, and the Irvine Initiative in AI, Law, and Society.

Qualifications
Applicants should hold a Ph.D. or equivalent in Computer Science or a closely-related field. Their Ph.D. must be completed by the date of appointment.
