About the Uveitis and Ocular Immunology Service
The Uveitis and Ocular Immunology Service at the Gavin Herbert Eye Institute is an established tertiary referral program dedicated to the diagnosis and management of infectious and noninfectious ocular inflammatory diseases.
The service cares for patients with a broad spectrum of complex conditions, including anterior, intermediate, posterior, and panuveitis; scleritis; ocular manifestations of systemic inflammatory diseases; and challenging postoperative inflammatory conditions.
Our program offers several distinctive strengths:
• Established clinical referral network: A robust and growing tertiary referral practice serving a diverse patient population of approximately 6 million people throughout Orange County and the surrounding Southern California region.
• Dedicated fellowship training: An established, AUPO Fellowship Compliance Committee-compliant uveitis fellowship that trains one fellow annually, providing opportunities for direct mentorship, clinical education, and academic collaboration.
• Multidisciplinary care: Active collaborations with colleagues in rheumatology, dermatology, neurology, neuroimmunology, oncology, and other medical specialties to provide comprehensive care for patients with complex systemic and ocular inflammatory diseases.
• Integrated sarcoidosis care: Participation in the UCI Health Sarcoidosis Integrated Care and Research Program, bringing together specialists from multiple disciplines to advance coordinated clinical care and research.
• Clinical and surgical collaboration: Close working relationships with the cornea, cataract/anterior segment, and retina services, offering opportunities for candidates with complementary clinical or surgical expertise.
• Research and innovation: Opportunities to participate in clinical trials, investigator-initiated studies, collaborative translational research, and investigations of novel diagnostic and therapeutic approaches to ocular inflammatory disease.
The service is experiencing continued growth in clinical demand and referrals. This recruitment represents an opportunity for a new faculty member to develop a thriving academic clinical practice while contributing meaningfully to the expansion and future direction of the uveitis program.
