Position description
The School of Pharmacy & Pharmaceutical Sciences at the University of California, Irvine, is seeking outstanding applicants for an open rank (assistant, associate, full) Professor of Clinical X position in pharmaceutical outcomes research within the Department of Clinical Pharmacy Practice. This is not a tenure track position.
Candidates specializing in pharmaceutical outcomes research, including pharmacoeconomics, pharmacoepidemiology, advanced and emerging quantitative methods (e.g., causal inference, artificial intelligence/machine learning [AI/ML], and high-dimensional data methods), health services research, and policy, will be considered. Experience conducting real-world evidence (RWE) research using large-scale data repositories, including administrative claims, electronic health records, registries, and other real-world data sources, is strongly preferred. Experience in the design, development, and programming of health economic models, including budget impact and cost-effectiveness models, is also preferred. Strong knowledge of emerging applications of AI, digital health technology, and health technology assessment (HTA) is desirable.
Qualified applicants will be eligible for California pharmacy licensure, as applicable to the position. Competitive applicants will have relevant scholarly and teaching experience, as well as additional postgraduate training, such as a fellowship or other research-oriented programs, and demonstrate potential for academic advancement within the UC system. Strong research collaboration skills and experience bridging population-based, clinical, and policy-oriented research initiatives are preferred. Applicants should also have teaching experience appropriate for a higher education setting and excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Providing high-quality instruction and training for PharmD and/or PhD students, primarily in health policy, pharmacoeconomics, and managed care pharmacy.
Seeking and securing grants and funding to support outcome research within the School. Collaborating with research units and centers on campus. Mentoring students/residents/fellows/post-graduates in research and scholarship, engaging them in meaningful projects. Serving on department, College, and/or University committees. Participating in curriculum assessment, development, and delivery.
Professors of Clinical X serve as clinician scholars and educators, which is expected to weigh more towards research over clinical activity. A successful candidate is expected to teach both student pharmacists and pharmacy residents at the didactic and experiential levels, and to lead or have a significant intellectual and substantive contribution to a research program with extramural support or be highly involved in other creative activities. They are also required to engage in clinical activities, such as clinical services, direct clinical trials, establish/evaluate clinical practice sites or care of delivery models. Candidates can provide clinical services and develop educational programs at the UC Irvine Medical Center (400+ bed tertiary care center) in the city of Orange or an affiliate site. This position will report to the Chair of the Department of Clinical Pharmacy Practice.
