Salary range: The university academic base salaries as to rank and step can be found here UC salary scales. However, for this position the total negotiated salary uses AAMC salary benchmarks for Clinical Pathology ranging from $268,775 - $369,100. This position includes membership in the health science compensation plan, which provides for eligibility for additional compensation.

Position description

The Department of Pathology & Laboratory Medicine at the University of California, Irvine is seeking qualified candidates for appointment at the Assistant, Associate or Full Professor level to serve as a molecular pathologist and Director in the Division of Molecular Pathology and Cytogenetics. The academic appointment may be in the Health Sciences (HS) Clinical or Clinical X series, depending on experience and extent of research and teaching effort. Both HS and Clinical X faculty provide patient care; teach fellows, residents, and medical students; perform public and University service; and contribute to scholarly activities. Clinical X faculty are expected to conduct more substantial research and have demonstrated excellence in teaching. An academic appointment in the Clinical X series confers membership in the UCI Academic Senate.

Applicants must have significant experience and/or fellowship training in molecular pathology, hold an MD or MD/PhD degree, must be board-certified or board-eligible in Clinical Pathology and/or Anatomic Pathology, and be eligible for, or currently hold, a medical license in the state of California. Experience in complex molecular methodologies, reviewing and interpreting test data in a clinical molecular pathology laboratory is essential. Experience in clinical cytogenetics is highly desirable. The incumbent is responsible for reviewing, interpreting, and signing-out reports, and is expected be actively involved in laboratory operations and quality assurance functions to ensure compliance to regulatory standards. The incumbent will also contribute to the refinement of current, and the development of future molecular and cytogenetic tests to enhance testing capabilities. In addition, the successful candidate is expected to have excellent interpersonal and managerial skills, a strong interest in service activities, a commitment to education, and a record in clinical and/or translational research that may be collaborative in nature. The candidate will be responsible for clinical services in molecular pathology, including on-call duty in clinical pathology, service on department and hospital committees, and teaching and mentoring of medical students, residents, and fellows.

This position will serve the needs of the UCI Health System, which encompasses over 1,300 beds and a growing ambulatory network. UCI Health includes: the UCI Medical Center a 400+ bed tertiary/quaternary care hospital located in the city of Orange which serves as the principal clinical and clinical training facility; a new hospital complex on the Irvine campus; and several community hospitals and outpatient clinics throughout Orange County.
