The Program in Global Languages & Cultures (GLC) at the University of California, Irvine anticipates hiring scholars at the rank of Lecturer to teach courses and to participate in other departmental activities for the 2026-27 academic year in the Winter and Spring 2027 quarters. The primary anticipated instructional need for academic year 2026-27 is in our undergraduate courses in our multilingual/academic English program (writing courses and reading/vocabulary courses). There may also be limited opportunities to teach other courses offered through GLC, including literature and global cultures. We are especially interested in candidates who are qualified to contribute to our program’s varied initiatives, including our Global Literacies program, Global Horizons program, CC×GC Pathways, and/or the Community Literacy Project.

Winter quarter service period: 1/4/2027-3/19/2027, pay period: 01/1/2027-03/31/2027
Spring quarter service period: 3/24/2027-6/11/2027, pay period: 04/01/2027-06/30/2027

REQUIREMENTS:
• Doctoral degree in a field relevant to the GLC curriculum (e.g., applied linguistics, rhetoric/writing, literature, etc.).
• Ability to teach a variety of courses in our multilingual/academic English program, designed to support the diverse literacy needs of multilingual students at a research university.
• Cross-cultural teaching experience that includes, is equivalent to, or is translatable to the teaching of multilingual students at the college/university level at a research university.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
• Experience teaching courses in literature and/or global cultural studies
• Ability to contribute to curriculum and course materials development drawing on recent and relevant research across relevant disciplinary contexts
• Record of ongoing professional development and achievement

SALARY:
The non-negotiable starting salary, per the 2026-27 Lecturer salary scale, is $9,227.13 per course. Benefits are available to appointees who meet eligibility requirements.

APPOINTMENT TERMS:
This is a limited-term appointment which falls under the purview of the agreement between University of California and the American Federation of Teachers (AFT). Terms and conditions of employment are subject to UC policy and the collective bargaining agreement. Review of applications will be completed by the GLC Hiring Committee.

1-3 Letters of Recommendation are required for applicants who have not taught with the Program in the past.

ABOUT GLC:
Global Languages & Cultures (GLC) is a dynamic and multifaceted unit housed in the UC Irvine School of Humanities. GLC is home to the Global Cultures program, which is one of the most popular and fastest growing majors in the School and a top-choice double major for students across campus. We also offer courses in a range of languages (Arabic, Filipino, Persian, Vietnamese) along with a variety of courses in academic English for multilingual students. The Program is home to a range of initiatives, including the Global Horizons program, the Intercultural Communication VR Research Lab, and the TOEP, which provides international graduate students who plan to become teaching assistants with an assessment program and support tutorials.
